Selden to Lotschen Pass and above; Aug 21

This proved to be one of our favorite hikes EVER. Among the highlights: A completely cloudless blue sky day with a perfect high temperature of 70 degrees. A 5,000 foot climb in about 4 hours. Close-up encounters with waterfalls; the mist felt so good during the uphill climb. Views down to the darling Steinbock Inn. Views back to the Kanderfirn glacier across the Gasterntal valley. Griesalp to Kandersteg; our first rain day

We fell asleep to rain Sunday night and awoke to it Monday morning (along with the cowbells) and the forecast was for 0-5% sunshine all day. So, we had to scrap our ‘big mountain pass’ day; the guidebook says it’s way to dangerous to do in the rain.
